Cloudscapes update

I managed to take individual photos for the cloudscapes, played with the camera settings and did this on my little Panasonic Lumix set for food photography which seemed to work better than portrait or flowers.  My much more expensive DSLR doesnt seem to pick the colours up so well.  All oil on aluminium and sizes are 20 x 20 cm, 20 x 30cm and 15 x 40cm.  I havent decided whether or not to do more of these, they are good fun and an excellent opportunity to practice with different brushes to get different paint effects.  The subject has endless possibilities and I have hundreds of references but it would be good to do some from life and also a few larger ones.  BlogPlug - check out the work of Roos Schuring, she is just changing her website and blog but her sky, land, sea and beachscapes are really impressive.

Sunny days, not a cloud in the sky...

...but that hasnt stopped me.  I finally got around to doing something with a few of the skies and clouds I have been 'collecting' for years now.  So final tweaks apart these are my cloud studies.  All oil on aluminium - Dibond Aluminium panels to be precise, new for me but a really nice smooth surface to paint on.  I'll snap them seperately when they pass their final examinations but I have noticed they are not  too photogenic individually.

Too darn hot.....

I am not complaining (well not much) but its so hot right now its hard to concentrate on the drawing by the time Tuesday evening comes around.  So here are this weeks best efforts, the quickies just 5 mins and the longer one about 45 in conte and chalk.  Its up and down with life drawing, consistancy is pretty elusive.  I wonder if Cole Porter had these problems.

Third time lucky

After two false starts last Tuesday the planets aligned and things suddenly fell into place.  Various hard pastels and conte on cheapo pale green sugar paper - A2.

Too hot for clothes

For once the model was the only one in the room dressed for the weather.  A rare but stunningly hot and beautiful day on Sunday lent the life session an extra brightness and from my position a nice backlight.  I am definately back to dry media for life for a while and leaving the paints at home, its quite liberating having so much (relative) time.  These are all on A2 and a mixture of charcoal, conte and hard pastels.
